Il matrimonio de sud/ Wedding of the South
Drama Therapy in Napoli
Recipients: students of the University of Naples L'Orientale
«The project – declares Anis Hamdoun – will tell the story of all the talents and brains who had to leave their south just to be or not to be! The future for us in the South is always elsewhere. We are from “here” but we need to go “there” to be us. That “there” could be any other place, but not “here”. If we stay here, we will not reach our horizons, if we go there, we will be able to see our potential, even if we are not at home."
The project is supervised by Prof. Monica Ruocco, professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Orientale.
The life stories of people who migrated from abroad to East Germany is the subject of a theater play to be shown in Dresden on July 6 and 7.
The showcase entitled “Dinnor on se Bood” was created by the “B:ClubsUN(D)SICHTBAR” theater group at the Staatschauspiel Dresden by amateur actors from Dresden whose heritage has international roots.
“A lot of people have no idea how diverse the east of Germany is. Hundreds of thousands of people came to the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) from all over the world to work or study. For example, my father came here as a former Vertragsarbeiter (migrant worker) from Vietnam,” says Paolo Le van, who, together with eight other participants and director Anis Hamdoun, has been working on the play since January. “With this play, we hope we can make this and many other aspects of east German society more visible and tell our own stories.”

“Chekhov” is the nickname that was given to a theatre actor who survived the Syrian underground Secret Service prison. He lives in Europe now, struggling to deal with the bloody, inhumane experiences he had faced in his home, Syria. In his mind palace, he creates a stage to reflect on the agonizing time he spent in the prison. On this stage, he feels safe and speaks comically about undergoing torture in custody and witnessing death.

The storyline has a twist, when we find ourselves in 2099 within a comedic, over-the-top game show, where the beautiful hostess Jamila is interviewing the only contender participating with a surreal series of questions about the torture methods that were being applied in Syria decades ago… The contender is only focused on winning the prize.
