The Clinic and my Journey

For over twenty years, I’ve worked as a director and writer in theatre and film, crafting stories, shaping performances, and exploring the depth of human expression. My artistic journey has taken me across borders, genres, cinemas and stages, but one principle has remained constant: drama is not just for the stage or screen. It’s a living language, one that belongs to everyone.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching, mentoring, and coaching actors, writers, directors, and artists. But over time, I began to feel a growing discomfort with how the tools of drama were confined to professional spaces. It was as if we were saying swimming is only for Olympians, or that yoga should remain in temples. Drama, with all its expressive, emotional, and transformative power, was being held back from those who could benefit from it most: everyday people seeking to learn, to heal, or to find their voice.

So I began to shift my approach. In parallel to my own artistic career, I committed myself to developing methods that would democratise the tools of drama-making methods that could be used in classrooms, therapy rooms, refugee shelters, language courses, companies and community centres.

It began with Drama Lingua, a method that merges theatre and language learning. Using improvisation, embodiment, and storytelling, I helped learners not only understand German, Arabic, or English, but inhabit them. This method brought language alive, transforming dry grammar into lived experience, and turning fear of mistakes into joyful play.

From there, I deepened my exploration into Drama and Voice Therapy, blending my artistic background with therapeutic principles. Voice, for me, is not only a medium of communication, it’s a vessel of identity, memory, and healing. I developed sessions where participants could reconnect with their bodies and breath, release trauma, and reclaim narratives that were once silenced.

At the heart of all this lies Storytelling, not just as performance, but as a tool of empowerment. I’ve used storytelling in integration work, in education, in trauma recovery, and in leadership coaching. Whether it’s helping a young refugee share their journey, or supporting a teacher to craft a powerful message, storytelling becomes a bridge between experience and understanding, between isolation and connection.

These methods are not separate from my work as a director and writer, they are rooted in the same philosophy: that creativity is a fundamental human right. That stories are not only meant to entertain, but to liberate, to teach, and to heal. And that drama, in all its forms, can be a tool for transformation, whether you're on stage or simply finding your place in the world.

Language Learning Philosophy:

Drama Lingua

Learn Languages the Practical Way!
My teaching method brings languages to life by focusing on real-world skills students can use every day. Through dynamic conversations, role-playing, and creative drama activities, learners build confidence while tackling real-life scenarios. I help students spot connections between their native language and the new one, simplifying grammar and vocabulary. Lessons are tailored to individual interests and goals, think hobbies, travel, or career skills, so classes stay engaging and relevant. Interactive games, storytelling, and teamwork spark creativity and make learning fun, while regular feedback ensures trackable progress. The result? A supportive, energetic classroom where students gain fluency, confidence, and a lifelong love for languages!

Drama Lingua: Practical learning

With experience teaching at universities like Napoli and expertise in drama, voice therapy, and language analysis, I offer a unique approach to learning. My interdisciplinary method combines Drama-lingua techniques with insights into the psychological and logical structures of languages for personalized, effective lessons.

In online sessions, I use English and Arabic as comparative languages to simplify German grammar, making it logical and easy to grasp. Through theatre techniques and voice exercises, we’ll analyze, reverse-engineer texts, and perfect native-like pronunciation.

Let’s make learning German simple and engaging!

Anis has developed innovative language teaching methods using theatrical techniques, which he passionately teaches at the prestigious University of Naples L'Orientale. Drama Arts: Boost Minds, Build Empathy, and Transform Society!

Acting, theatre, and film aren’t just fun, they’re powerful tools for mental growth and community change. By stepping into different roles, students safely explore emotions, build self-confidence, and develop empathy, key ingredients for psychological well-being. Drama activities also sharpen the brain: studies show they improve memory, focus, and problem-solving skills, creating sharper thinkers. Beyond the individual, theatre and film challenge stereotypes and open conversations about mental health, fostering kinder, more inclusive communities. When schools and neighbourhoods embrace drama arts, they nurture emotionally intelligent, critically engaged citizens—paving the way for a healthier, smarter world.

Voice Therapy

Anis believes that having a happy and fulfilled inner self involves embracing different aspects of ourselves that work together to create a balanced and harmonious whole. These aspects include our voice, body, and thoughts, which should all be in sync.

When we feel stressed and our voice sounds strained, it's connected to the tension we might feel in our body, just like how stress in our body is linked to confused and jumbled thoughts. During these confusing times, it's really important to work hard to find balance.

Anis uses a careful combination of Writing, Voice, and Drama therapies to help people achieve this balance. These therapies help create a harmonious blend that supports individuals in their journey towards feeling better.

Workshops for Theatre and Film

With a distinguished career as a theatre and film director and lecturer, Anis has earned numerous awards in both fields. Drawing from extensive experience, he now offers specialised workshops through the Drama Clinic. These workshops provide hands-on training in theatre and filmmaking, with a focus on acting, voice work, and writing. Designed for both aspiring and seasoned artists, these programs combine professional insights with practical skills, fostering creativity and excellence in every participant.
